Your new role
As a Banking Lawyer / Senior Banking Lawyer, you will provide pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of regulatory and compliance matters impacting a retail banking business.
Key responsibilities will include:

• Advising on regulatory requirements, legal risks, and compliance obligations across consumer lending and financial products
• Supporting the business in identifying, assessing and mitigating legal and regulatory risks
• Reviewing incidents and advising on breach reporting obligations to relevant regulators
• Managing legal disputes and liaising with external legal counsel where required
• Reviewing product documentation, marketing materials, and operational practices to ensure compliance with applicable laws and industry standards
• Partnering with internal stakeholders to provide strategic legal input and enable business outcomes
• Assisting with regulatory reporting and maintaining strong engagement with external advisors.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Admission to practice in Australia, with an unrestricted practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain one)
• Minimum of 2-3 years' PAE for a role at the Lawyer level, OR a minimum of 5 years' PAE at the Senior Lawyer level
• Previous legal experience in retail banking
• Strong knowledge of banking and financial services regulation and compliance frameworks
• Proven ability to provide clear, pragmatic, and commercial legal advice to non-legal stakeholders
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
• High levels of professionalism, discretion and ability to handle sensitive matters
