Description
The Retail Manager leads all strategy, planning, buying, product development, merchandising, and
daily operations for The Shop at Bok Tower Gardens. This role is responsible for extending the
visitor experience beyond the Gardens through thoughtful, mission aligned retail offerings while
driving earned revenue, long term growth, and institutional sustainability.
The Retail Manager creates memorable, mission-inspired retail experiences that reflect the beauty,
history, and values of Bok Tower Gardens while supporting a high performing, customer focused
team. This position is critical to offering visitors a unique opportunity to amplify their Gardens

Requirements
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy and Vision
Develop and implement a long-range vision and strategic plan for retail operations aligned
with the mission, values, and visitor experience of Bok Tower Gardens
Set annual revenue goals, budgets, and retail performance benchmarks
Monitor changing visitor demographics and buying patterns to ensure inventory and
merchandising evolve throughout the year
Merchandising and Product Development
Develop and execute a merchandise mix strategy within the context of nonprofit retail that
reflects the Gardens’ collections, exhibitions, and current retail trends
Lead the development of Gardens branded and collection-based products through concept,
design, sourcing, pricing, and production
Research and analyze retail trends and attend market buying shows to identify new products,
vendors, and design inspiration
Establish merchandise themes and implement frequent remerchandising to maintain fresh,
engaging displays for repeat visitors
Attend market buying shows to research new products, retail trends, and design ideas.
Buying and Inventory Management
Oversee all purchasing within the approved open-to-buy plan and established profit margins
Maintain appropriate inventory levels and turnover goals
Establish and monitor inventory control systems, conduct annual physical inventories, and
report valuations to Accounting
Coordinate and manage inventory for special events, educational programs, seasonal
initiatives, and author appearances
Financial Management
Prepare, analyze, and manage annual operating budgets and customized retail financial
reports
Establish pricing and markup strategies to meet revenue and margin goals
Ensure daily sales reporting, cash handling, and reconciliation procedures are followed
Team Leadership
Hire, train, schedule, and supervise retail staff
Foster a team culture grounded in creativity, accountability, leadership, and exemplary
customer service
Set sales goals, manage performance, and conduct annual employee evaluations
Maintain a competitive sales approach and foster an environment of achieving monthly/
annual sales goals
Lead by example by regularly working shifts on the sales floor, including weekends, holidays,
and special events
Operations and Systems
Maintain operating policies and procedures related to customer service, cash handling,
returns, store opening and closing, and merchandise handling
Oversee point of sale software and hardware, including troubleshooting, updates, and
training
Supervise wholesale and web sales programs
Collaboration and Marketing
Work collaboratively with Marketing and other departments to promote the retail program
through advertising, special promotions, and integrated campaigns
Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, creative partners, and internal
stakeholders to keep the retail experience fresh and competitive
Coordinate and execute annual plant sales and horticulture special events working with a
variety of vendors
Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Retail Merchandising preferred or a related field
Seven to ten years of direct retail management and supervisory experience
Demonstrated success in achieving and exceeding sales goals
Extensive knowledge of merchandising strategies, visual presentation, and selling techniques
Strong understanding of merchandise buying, product development, and market pricing
Experience with budgeting, financial reporting, inventory management, and point of sale
systems
Superior leadership skills with the ability to inspire, influence, and develop teams
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and travel as required

Salary Description
$65,000 with experience-based progression
